Windows 11 24H2 Home and Pro Updates Have Ended: What to Check on Your Mini PC
Since October 13, 2026, Windows 11 version 24H2 Home and Pro no longer get security updates. Many mini PCs run one of these two editions, so a new or recently bought machine may need one more update before you set it up.
In short
The October 2026 security update (KB5127648) was the last one for Windows 11 24H2 Home and Pro. Microsoft recommends moving to version 26H2 or 25H2. From 24H2, the move is a small enablement package and one restart. Check the version on any mini PC you own or unbox this fall.
What Microsoft changed
24H2 Home and Pro reached end of updates on October 13, 2026. Enterprise and Education editions of 24H2 stay supported until October 12, 2027.
Microsoft’s release health page says devices on these editions “will no longer receive monthly security and non-security preview updates.” The October 13 update, KB5127648 (build 26100.9711 on 24H2), was their final patch. The company recommends updating to 26H2, the Windows 11 2026 Update released in late September, or to 25H2. Windows 11 23H2 Home and Pro already lost support in November 2025.
How to check and update a mini PC
Open Settings › System › About and read “Version”. If it says 24H2, turn on early updates in Windows Update and install the 2026 Update.
- Settings › System › About: note the version (24H2, 25H2 or 26H2).
- Settings › Windows Update: turn on “Get the latest updates as soon as they’re available”, then check for updates.
- Install “Windows 11, version 26H2” when it appears and restart once.
Microsoft is rolling 26H2 out in waves and holds it back on PCs where it detects a problem, so it may not show up right away; keep the setting on. A machine still on 23H2 or older can’t use the small package. It needs a full upgrade from Microsoft’s download page, PCWorld notes.
What it means for buyers
Nothing changes about which mini PC to buy, but update Windows before you install your apps, and treat a refused update as a warning sign.
Mini PCs can sit in stock for months, so the Windows version they ship with can be a year old. Update it during setup, while the machine is still easy to return. If a new PC refuses every feature update, contact the seller before the return window closes. Still on Windows 10?
